Vikory Endorsement: Maxime Leroy
When did you start playing the drums and why?
I didn't start to play the drums as a child like most drummers as I started to play the drums around the age of 14 years old, living in Amiens. One of my father's oldest friend, Mr Thierry Chauvet-Peillex, a professional drummer who played for many artists (Dee Dee Bridgewater, Patricia Kaas, Patrick Bruel, Eddy Mitchell...), gave me one of his old drum : a beautiful Premier Genista. I have never stopped playing the drums ever since.
I have always been playing with other musicians as I have been part of more than 15 bands in Amiens, Lille and Lyon (France). I graduated from the Progressive Drum School in 2018, and in 2019 I came back to Amiens and created the Progressive Music School Amiens. As of now, I am also the drummer of 4 bands : Man On, Alaska, Fleur de Sel and Zest'off.
What is your favorite type of music to play on the drums?
When I started, I only played rock as I was a huge fan of Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. After I started to be a Progressive Drum School's student, I developed my curiosity and I worked in an electro-pop band, in a funk band, and a jazz Quartet. So I do play a lot of different types of music even though I have a little preference for jazz and groovy, smooth music.
What is your single favorite band/artist and why?
Red Hot Chili Peppers. I am an eternal fan.
I also love all creative artists who don't hesitate to play with electronic sounds like Asaf Avidan, Moderat... and I really like powerful voices like Adele, H.E.R, or french artist Kimberose.
Why did you choose Vikory?
First of all and like many others I think: for the look. This incredible look. I never saw such beautiful drumstick before. So I purchased one pair and... I fell in love.
They are amazing. This is not just a good looking drumstick. This is the perfect balance between the look and the quality we are expecting. They are perfectly balanced, and much more robust than any other pair of drumsticks I played with.
Any special anecdote about you as a drummer?
The truth is: I am colour blind. When I was recording the album FLIPPER with my former band Line Kipit, we worked more than 3 months on the cover. It was a great design all purple. My drum was blue, electric blue, and I was sure that the cover of the album and my drum were the same colour.
So when we started our tour in Belgium I was really happy to see my drum "matching" our album cover, but when I said that to the singer he looked at me and said : « Dude, you really worked on that cover for months without knowing that it was purple and not blue ?? ». It was one of my biggest laugh on tour !
What’s your favorite Vikory model and why?
Definitely the Kukulkan model. I'm colour blind but i know that pink is my favorite colour. I don't know if I really see it as it should be, but I'm in love with them.
Thanks, Maxime and welcome to the Vikory family!
